The Shylife Special: From A Distance, Mason & Annalisa

ANNALISA: Do you remember the first time we met?

MASON: Yep!

ANNALISA: I thought you were cute, did you know you liked me?

MASON: I knew way before that!
ANNALISA: Really? When?
MASON: Well...

3 MONTHS EARLIER:

Mason Von Strunkle had never had detention in his life before. But today he'd made sure he would get it, for one reason and one reason only...

...because she had detention! Mason had known he was besotted with Annalisa Kirkland the moment she arrived at the school three days before. Only problem was, his shyness was preventing him from actually introducing himself despite the fact that his family was the most famous family in all of Hidden Springs...but he wanted her to like him for him!

That day as they both sat waiting for the teacher to arrive, he watched her stare into space, as if she was in another world! She had the cutest nose he had ever seen and her eyes sparkled when she was daydreaming, he loved everything about her and could gaze at her forever!

Days turned into weeks and Mason still hadn't spoken to Annalisa! Advice from the men in his household had been no good, his father had never had a problem getting a girl to notice him and his grandfather...well he only ever loved his grandmother, he'd never even tried to talk to another girl! Granny Lacey was all he'd ever wanted!

So Mason was at a loss, how was he going to talk to this girl? This girl who had shown no interest in him or anyone else since she moved to Hidden Springs. She didn't even pay attention to Carter Monte, her cousin! She was in a world of her own!

One day, Annalisa was up for detention again for daydreaming in class. Mason spoke back to the teacher so that he could be with Annalisa that afternoon, just to admire her from afar of course! His parents thought he was at after school club, they had no idea he was gaining a reputation of the bad boy at school!

As they sat waiting for the teacher once again, she suddenly spoke...

ANNALISA: You really shouldn't give the teacher such aggro! She's just trying to do her job!

Mason was astonished, he'd never heard her voice before! And it was the sweetest thing he had ever heard!

He didn't know what to say to her, his mouth suddenly went dry and his palms began to sweat, rubbing them on his jeans he gained a bit of composure and opened his mouth to speak...but she got in there first, approaching him in the most ladylike manner he had ever seen...

ANNALISA: I love detention! It's a great time to sit and think...about...stuff!

MASON: Ummm...

ANNALISA: Because life is such a complex existence you know? I often find myself wondering, why am I even here???

Mason had no idea what to say, so he just grunted and let her talk...

ANNALISA: I mean, we're put on this earth to reproduce and work until we're too old to reproduce and work...so then what? We grow old and crusty...then we die!

Even though her choice of conversation was depressing and morbid, Mason found that he loved to listen to what she had to say!

ANNALISA: I often think that my role in life is to observe, to think! Not to conform to the rules of our world! So I go off into my own little world. Where everyone is happy and there is no war, no hunger, no grief...just...life and trees and love!

MASON: But...if we didn't have grief, then life would be all one sided would it not?

Annalisa looked at him with surprise, he was surprised himself that he'd spoken up...

ANNALISA: I...suppose...you're right in a way...

MASON: I mean...in order to appreciate the good in life you have to have some bad to balance it out!

Annalisa continued to stare at him, then she gasped...

ANNALISA: Oh...you're so right!!!

After that day, Mason stopped getting detention, and Annalisa began visiting his home and staying the night on several occasions.

 They even got pretty close once!

After a few teething problems with his family, Mason invited her over for his youngest sister Sienna's birthday party. He had decided that he was going to propose going steady with her, even though he was extremely nervous about it. She seemed quite nervous too as Mason's other sister, Darcy, didn't like her at all!

 MASON: There you are! What's with the hiding in the bushes?
ANNALISA: Your sister told me at school that she was going to throw me in your swimming pool and drown me, so I have my reasons!

 MASON: Annalisa, you know I would never let her hurt you, don't you?
ANNALISA: Really?
MASON: Annalisa...will you be my girlfriend?
ANNALISA: Yes Mason, I will!

 Mason was overcome, he hadn't really expected her to say yes, so when she did he kissed her for the second time ever and loved every minute of it! As he pulled back from her, afraid he'd gone too far, she pulled him back towards her and kissed him back...
  

 ...as they embraced each other officially as girlfriend and boyfriend...

 Mason's brother Jared was helping Sienna blow out her candles. He was sad that his baby sister was growing up, she would need him a little less than she did at that moment...

 ...but she would still love him just as much, if not more!

Sienna became a beautful child as her brother was growing up too. His first official relationship! Sienna liked Annalisa very much...

 ...sadly that wasn't the case with Darcy, that evening she decided that enough was enough! This girl was so annoying, with her pretty eyes and her soft blonde hair in a perfect bob!

This girl needed to be taken out!

  After beating on his girlfriend, Darcy told her to stay away from her brother. And Annalisa quickly retreated into the bushes! Mason was furious!

MASON: DARCY!!! What is your problem???
DARCY: Her!

 MASON: Of all the...that's my girlfriend! The girl I love!
DARCY: Oh come on Mase, you don't even know what love is! You're just a teenager who spends too much time in the bathroom squeezing your pimples and checking for chest hair!
MASON: You DO NOT go near Annalisa EVER AGAIN!!!

 DARCY: FINE BY ME!!! Look at you, you're a big dummy thinking you're in luuuurve! You'll never see me falling hard for ANYONE!!! Get a life ya loser!

Oh how things would change for our young Darcy!

 As the weeks went on, things were strained between Darcy and Mason. Annalisa was afraid to come to the house and it made him so mad! 

 Jared felt in the middle again. He wished his brother and sister would just make up! But neither of them would hold out an olive branch and the silence was unbearable! Until one evening...

 ...Darcy had a change of heart!

DARCY: I'm...sorry for kicking your girlfriend's butt!
MASON: So you should be Darce, that was out of order!
DARCY: I know, I...I was jealous! I'm glad you've found someone bro, really I am!
MASON: Thanks...

Annalisa came back, more than happy to be in Mason's arms! Darcy kept her distance and left them to it. And Mason had never been so happy in his entire life!

ANNALISA: I can't believe you deliberately got detention just to be around me! That's...well it's adorable is what it is!
MASON: No you are!
ANNALISA: I...I think I love you Mason!
MASON: I know I love you Annalisa! I just...know!
