Love Drunk: Chapter Twenty Eight

Last time there was a funeral to arrange and a DNA test to wait for! At the end of the last chapter, the paternity test had finally arrived! But who is Keira's daddy? Is it Dexter or Alex?

Lainie, Dexter, Ashton, Drew and Roxy all stood staring at the envelope. All of them too afraid to open it! Suddenly Dexter piped up "Who's with the baby?" As Lainie rolled her eyes.
"David silly!" She replied impatiently as Dex felt like someone had punched him in the gut. She and David were getting along far too well lately and it was hurting him to watch!

Suddenly Drew grabbed the envelope from the table and ripped it open as the others gasped. "DREW!!!" Roxy scolded him.
"What? Oh..." As he read the results Dex felt his body tremble all over.

"Andrew?" Ash touched his arm as he threw the letter at Dex who caught it with his shaky hand.

Drew whispered to Ash as Dex handed the letter to Lainie, unable to read it! Lainie in turn put it back on the table and said to Roxy "You read it!" as Ash gasped at what Drew had told him.

Roxy studied the letter for what felt like hours but was really only seconds...

...she handed it to Lainie who squeezed her eyes shut and muttered "Just tell me Roxanne!" Roxy sighed and cocked her head to the side, looking at Dex she said "She's yours daddio!"

"WHAT?" Dex cried, tears filling up in his beautiful blue eyes. He grabbed the letter off of Roxy, "Let me see that!"

As he read, 99.9% match to Dexter William Maloney, the tears blinded him and fell onto the paper as Lainie wept along with him. "It's over Dexy! It's really over!" She hugged him tightly, "She's OURS!"

Dexter couldn't wait to see Keira for the first time knowing he was her daddy! When he ran into Lainie's flat David immediately knew by the look on his face and the tear stains that it was good news. "Congrats Dexter!" He smiled as Dex scooped up Keira and snuggled her tightly.

"Hey there, I'm your daddy! Yes I am!" He whispered in her ear as she gurgled and giggled at the sound of his voice.

She felt that much softer and lovelier in his arms now he knew for certain she was his flesh and blood!

The first person Dexter called was his mother, she almost perforated his ear drum with all the screaming! Then it was time to call Alex. He acknowledged receipt of his own letter and grudgingly promised to never bother Lainie or Dexter ever again.

As the rehearsal had been abruptly cancelled due to the good news they had just received, Ash headed over to Erin's full of excitement and happiness for his brother...and for himself too, he was officially a real uncle.

When he told Erin the news, she smiled and kissed him on the lips.

"Uncle Ash!" she laughed softly, "So cute! Never doubted it for a minute!"

As they stood in her little bedsit, Ash looked her in the eyes and said "I love you Erin!"

Erin couldn't help herself, she burst into tears at the sound of Ash's voice saying those four words she had longed to hear. "Erin? What..." she kissed him again, but this time with more passion.

"Erin!" he held her in his arms and locked eyes with her, "I'm ready! I'm ready to make you mine, I'm ready to be your boyfriend!" Erin giggled and shook her head.
"Oh Ashton!" she mumbled...

"Shut up and take me to bed or lose me forever!!!" Ash smiled broadly and did as he was told, scooping her up and carrying her to the bed!

Roxy decided to open up the diner that day after the rehearsal was cut short. Standing outside was the guy from 9b. "Oh hey! It says you're closed? Cook off with food poisoning eh?" He chuckled as Roxy frowned.

"It was...a...joke hey what are you doing today? Fancy going for a coffee or something?" Roxy frowned even harder.
"Look..." She began,
"Matthew!" He grinned and outstretched his hand, she didn't shake it.

"Look Matthew, I appreciate your enthusiasm but I'm really not interested in a relationship right now." Matthew shrugged.
"Who said anything about a relationship? It's just coffee, or it's a new guy in town and his tour guide partaking in the local hot beverages together. Nothing big!" He shrugged again and jammed his hands in his pockets, rocking on his heels. Roxy felt a smile emerge from the depths of her annoyance over this pest of a man. "No thanks!" She forced the smile back down and attempted to push past him to open the door.

"You know my mum always said I wouldn't take no for an answer! And she was right because now I'm looking at CEO of my company if I work hard enough! So don't think that a little no thanks and a few snarls and growls are going to put me off!" Roxy looked impatiently at him.
"So if I go for coffee with you, that will get you off my back?" Matthew grinned even wider.

"Oh no, I'm hoping that if you go for coffee with me I'll get you on your back!" He winked as Roxy growled at him, as predicted.
"I was kidding, I'm really not that crass! It would be nice but...I'd much rather get to know you first before we make sweet love that will threaten to demolish the building!" Roxy's jaw hit the floor at his arrogance.

"Because when you and I finally make sweet love, it's going to be explosive stuff! I'll get back to you on that coffee date!" He winked and headed for the stairs.

Suddenly he turned round and said "And you never told me YOUR name!" He pouted.
"Roxanne!" She sighed impatiently as that smile overpowered her and appeared on her face, "Roxy to my friends, so you can call me Roxanne!" Matthew chuckled and turned away from her...

"Roxy it is then!" And he jumped up the stairs two at a time.

Monday came by so fast, it was the day of Winston Mitchell's funeral. When the gang returned from the cemetery, Rob took Drew aside.

"I want to have a serious chat with you!" He frowned.
"Yeah sure what's up?" Not in the mood for a chat after just burying his grandfather, Drew tried to be as polite as he could to his potential brother-in-law.

"It's about your involvement with my sister." Drew was confused, he and Rob had socialised many times since he began dating Charlotte. Why was he giving him the talk now?
"Yeah? What about it?"

"Well I think you should, er, cut your hair!" Drew took a step back.
"You do? Huh!"
"Yeah too...shaggy!"
"Is that a fact?" Drew raised an eyebrow.

"Rob? Has your mother put you up to this?" Rob hung his head and mumbled,
"Yes! She thinks you're bad for Lottie!"
"Oh really?" Drew's eyebrow lifted even higher, "Well can you pass on a message to your mother for me?"
"Umm..."

"Tell your mother that Char and I are adults. We're in love, in fact as soon as I get outta this depressing suit we are off to try for a baby!" Rob gasped and shook his head violently. "That's right Rob, a BABY!!!"
"Drew...she'll be mad!" Rob's face was as white as a sheet.

"And I care because..." Drew turned heel and left him in the hallway and headed upstairs to tear off his suit and make a baby with Charlotte!

"CHAR! Get in that bedroom girl, we're making a baby today!" He announced as Charlotte sat weeping in her living room. "Oh..."

Drew sat down beside her, buttoning his shirt back up and tightening his tie. "Char?"
"Oh Andrew!" She sobbed, "I'm just so sad!" Drew let out a low groan, he had finally plucked up the courage to sleep with her and got hit by a wall of miserable! He put his arm around her to comfort her.

"Char...I don't know what to say..."
"Just say you'll never die?"
"I...I can't promise that my darling! We all die eventually. But what I can promise you is that I'll try not to die just yet, okay?" He gave her one of his cheeky grins as she laughed a little.

"Andrew, did you really want to make a baby today?"
"Sure why not? As one life leaves this world, one enters huh?" He shrugged as Charlotte sighed.

"I think you've had enough emotion for one day Andrew. Let's enjoy our freedom a little longer, Lainie and Dexter have very little time to themselves these days and since Roxy came to stay I hardly see you!" Drew was disappointed and relieved at the same time.

He supposed he could wait, after all he'd waited thirty five years, another day or two wasn't going to hurt!

With the funeral now out of the way, David had insisted on taking Lainie out for dinner to celebrate the good news about Keira's paternity while Dexter babysat his daughter.

As he played with Keira he began talking to her. "Daddy loves his little Kee Bee!"

Looking into her eyes he smiled sadly, "Daddy loves mummy very much too! In fact daddy loves mummy more than she will ever know!" He could feel the tears threatening to fall, but he fought them back.

As he snuggled Keira tightly, he decided on one thing. Something he should have done a long time ago...

...he finally let Lainie go! Now he had to move on and be happy for her and David. He had a child with her, and that was going to have to be enough! Some things were just never meant to be, and he now accepted that like a gentleman!

Oh dear! Is Dexter wise to give up on pursuing Lainie? Because we all know that David is a lovely guy, but he's not for Lainie...it's Laixter forever...right? ;)

  1. Yay!! Well of course Dexy has the strong swimmers ;) As much as I want them to be together I think its good that they are stepping back, time isn't right and they both need to grow a bit first. Oh, and stop making me cry!!!! ;p Loves ya!

  2. Okay.... I almost had to pick my jaw up off the floor xD Why do I feel like Laixter is not gonna really happen? D: Great chapter, as always. Can't believe Drew XD That wasn't romantic at all and i'm glad Char had the sense and rationality to know that and was too sad to actually.... yeah.... lol >.> Bet that's what Lainie and David ended up doing <.< It's common after funerals.... not that I don't love Lainie.... but she is dense and naive.... It is starting to bug me! Lol. Why can't they just love each other already and be a happy family? (jk i know why, too much more to write about first). Much love. Bravo
